Discovered in Montans in the foundations of a 1st-century building, this treasure consists of 40 gold coins (aurei), 39 of which were minted in Lyon (capital of Roman Gaul) and one in Pergamum (in present-day Turkey). The obverse of the coins features emperors of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, while the reverse displays allegorical imagery.
