Treasuries of Time

This mural originally painted for the vast library of State Bank of Pakistan, Central Directorate new building in Karachi in1961, is Sadequain's unique masterpiece of his Blue and Ochre period. It is his first large mural celebrating the intellectual achievements of man, and depicts 46 major figures divided into three main sections. These sections are seperated by dividing figures.

Starting from the first pre-historic man drawing a circle, the painting goes on to include the portraitures of prominent philosphers and intellectually towering figures from Greece, the medieval Italians, the Islamic world, post Renaissance and from South Asia. The men portrayed here made very significant contributions, sometimes life-changing ones, towards the advancement of civilization.

The largest number of figures of renowned personalities in this mural are from the Islamic world. In the middle is the artist Sadequain himself showing his pulse to Hakeem Al-Razi.
