Ratification by John II of Portugal of the agreements signed in Tordesillas on June 7, 1494 between the Catholic Kings and King John II of Portugal, negotiated by the Spanish ambassadors and procurators; advisers Enrique Enríquez, mayordomo mayor (high steward), Gutierre de Cárdenas, senior commander of León and senior accountant, and Doctor Rodrigo Maldonado; and the Portuguese—advisers Rui de Sousa, lord of Sagres and Beringel; his son Juan de Sousa, almotacén mayor (high clerk of the market); and Arias de Almada, magistrate of the Civil Rights of the Court and the Royal Landing, who hereby establish a new line of demarcation between both Kingdoms, drawn from pole to pole, 370 leagues to the west of the islands of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde).
