Powerscourt House was built between 1731-40 to designs by Richard Castle for Richard Wingfield, later 1st Viscount Powerscourt. Its extensive gardens and fine tree lined avenue were laid out at this time. Significant remodelling of the gardens took place a century later. Photograph by Lewis Wingfield.
