Trees: Summer/Winter is part of a series of portraits Chris has completed chronicling sycamore and aspen trees.

"The primary inspiration for my work is life in all its forms. As an artist and amateur naturalist, I collect the colors and patterns of the world around me and attempt to preserve them in my hand painted and printed fabrics. I spend part of every day outdoors observing the coming and going of life in nature. I strive to perceive the pattern in the life that surrounds me, and as an artist, to record it. I gather these colors and patterns and experiences and I take them to my studio where I preserve them in paint and print and text. For it is the nature of artists to manipulate the art of nature."
