Toledo, España

This rectangular basin and has a triple inscription in Hebrew, Latin and Greek. Various theories have been suggested as to its function. It thought by some to be a basin for ceremonial washing in the synagogue, whereas others consider it to be a child's sarcophagus or an ossuary. It was subsequently used as a font, as can be seen from the drainage hole in the base. The inscriptions are decorated with symbols from the iconography of the time (5th century). The Hebrew and Latin inscriptions contain messages of peace. The Greek inscription is illegible.
