This soft earthenware jar, a Goguryeo vessel, was discovered in Pyeongyang. It is made from very fine clay that was fired at a low temperature, and its black surface was burnished, giving it a soft sheen. Light brown in color, it has a single knob shaped like a lotus bud. Similar vessels have been found in the Goguryeo layers of Mongchon Earthen Fortress and the Goguryeo bastion site of Siru Peak on Mt. Acha, enabling this jar to be dated to around the late fifth century CE. This is a non-utilitarian item that was used as a grave good or for some other ritual purpose.
