Siena had surrendered on April 21st 1555; here the Medicean and Imperial troops are seen re-entering Florence. The captains are approaching Porta Romana and are met by the prince Francesco de’ Medici with a numerous following. In the bottom right side of the painting are featured those artists and intellectuals at work in the Sala Grande: starting from the left Don Vincenzo Borghini, Giorgio Vasari, Giovanni Battista Adriani, Giovanni Stradano, Battista Naldini, Jacopo Zucchi.
