The theme of the crossing of Siberia, derived from nineteenth-century German prints, recurs several times in Ligabue's artistic production, especially in his mature years. The artist resorts to a tried and tested compositional formula, with the carriage of the troika coming from the right, the draft horses puffing, the central one with its front legs raised and its muzzle turned upwards. In this specific case there are three characters, the man with the whip, the one with the stick and a figure with raised hands.
