In the pond of the Rose Garden at the Botanical Garden of the University of Porto, we have a small collection of tropical water lilies that have colored this spot of water during both the day and night. The day-blooming tropical water lilies, as their name suggests, bloom during the day and close their petals at nightfall, slowly opening them again the next morning. Tropical Night-Blooming Water Lily species, on the other hand, begin to open their blooms at nightfall, a feature which makes them one of the greatest attractions of our special night-time guided tours.
