This truck could have been purchased at the local five-and-dime store for about 30 cents. It was manufactured by the Auburn Rubber Corporation, of Auburn, Indiana. Auburn was not the first toy company to offer rubber vehicles, but it was likely the largest. Its rubber cars and trucks were available from about 1935 to 1955, at which time the company switched to vinyl. When in full swing, Auburn offered about 90 different vehicles made of rubber. The grime on this truck indicates how much play it received.
