Tupu (Brooch)

The tupu is a spoon-shaped brooch and a fundamental element in the traditional Andean clothing. It is decorated in the centre with a double-headed eagle, an element that is present in artifacts of the early American colonial era, as a symbol of the Germanic empire taken on by Charles V of Spain. It is an example of hybridization with which Native American populations integrate and re-elaborate the conquest to mitigate its violence.
