Second half of 18th century

Sadberk Hanım Museum

Sadberk Hanım Museum
İstanbul, Türkiye

The composition consists of three concentric circles. The small central circle is filled with a tomb flanked by cypress trees. Encircling this are three bands of galleons. The circles are outlined with small flowers on undulating stems. The galleons at the corners of the cloth are encircled by other small galleon motifs. The ground of the centrepiece and the masts of the galleons are worked in silver wrapped metal strip work, and the other motifs in tambour work using silk thread. The cloth is edged with needle lace of metal-wrapped silk thread.
