Turbine in Millpit

After the mid-1800s, steel turbines began replacing wooden water wheels. They were smaller, turned with greater speed, and created more power. It is thought that at least three steel turbines were used at the mill, with installations in 1877, 1901, and 1925. The 1925 steel turbine may be seen at the bottom of the millpit today.
