Long Description: "The dancer holding an instrument giving her rhythm follows the tenth paper of "Recvel de divers portraits des principales dames de la Porte dv Grand Tvrc..." by Georges de la Chappelle published in Paris in 1648 and is titled underneath as "Schinguene Mussulman" and "Comedienne Turc". "Schinguene" could be the Turkish word for a Romany woman. Within living memory, entertainment and dancing in the Orient were an art of the Romany. The female dancer on the painting has round, smooth and almost un-shadowed face. Her garment is of strong green and red colour enriched with veils producing light reflections." (dr. Polona Vidmar)
