Inspired by Swan Lake, Louise Yu incorporated both the black and white swan into her design, capturing a sense of both elegance and darkness. Layers of white tulle with black seeping through and black and white ribbons interlaced on the bodice depict the struggle between Odette and Odile. The dramatic contrast between black and white creates visual tension, while feathers on the centre front bodice represent the swan.
Introduced to art at a young age, Yu has experimented with watercolour, acrylic painting, oil painting, sculpture, pottery and other mediums, but the primary outlet for her creativity is fashion design. Currently studying fashion design at Ryerson University, her pieces have been featured in several major exhibitions and have won a number of awards.
