Twelfth Station

In this depiction of the twelfth station, the moment of Christ's crucifixion is presented with Onabrakpeya's distinct African thematic approach. The artist shows Christ being stripped of his garments before crucifixion, with two soldiers flanking him on both sides. The tearing of Christ's upper garment downwards is vividly expressed, while the soldiers remain a constant presence. Although the artist remains true to the biblical narrative, his creative license introduces African features, embedding a cultural reinterpretation of the scene.

In the background, geometric and linear forms in dark tones represent the earthquakes and eclipse that occurred during Christ’s death. The key moment captured here is Christ’s request to the Apostle John to care for his mother, with the two of them depicted in traditional Nigerian attire. Christ's loincloth is adorned with intricate patterns, further blending the African elements into the biblical scene, thus reflecting Onabrakpeya’s consistent fusion of cultural and spiritual motifs.
