The title 2016-2020 refers to the current presidential administration. The figure on the left, with large features, resembles George Floyd. This painting was begun the week Mr. Floyd was killed. There is an emotional flatness and emptiness in his eyes. The middle figure appears shocked and afraid, perhaps from the volcanic resurgence of social unrest, while the figure on the right is sad and pensive. This figure may represent the previous administration and those who still hold onto the hope and dreams it had promised.
