From the Artist: Painted in response to children whose lives have been affected by the CoronaVirus. Denials surrounding my son, Reid’s, overdose death mirrored America’s cultural denials of climate change, media conspiracies, and disease. Chaotic winds beg for stability. The years 2020-2021 have been a struggle for breath, life, sanity, and survival. Like most arts folks, I have profoundly experienced the personal distancing from professional and social experiences with peers, students, and organizations. There has been a cooling down rethink about the art world’s expectations. Now, healing is necessary. My main focus is the individual in isolation. It aims for a synchronicity between mind, nature, and the senses through process and nonjudgmental oil stick paintings. This deviates from controlled imagery or concepts in an attempt to find pure mind and cleanse it by tapping into the moment. It is a direct result of awareness and experience (not unconsciousness). Artwork flows from an understanding of life’s fleeting nature. Myriad possibilities and joyous miracles as brilliant colors skate across painterly surfaces and await the time for sharing with humanity once again.
