This two-piece dress simulates a continuously cut model in skilful trompe l’oeil. The sleeveless bodice with V-shaped neckline is shirt-shaped and is entirely embroidered in tambour work with small gold coloured beads. Bust, arms and hemline are trimmed with borders of strung long rod beads with silver inserts. The side seams are very slightly gathered at hip level. The asymmetrical skirt is fastened to the straight-cut petticoat at the hip. The skirt folds twice in the front and drops straight in the back, the overlapping portion is shorter, and drops in loose folds on the left, the hemline and edges here are also accented with rod bead trim. The loose-hanging bodice and open skirt granted the freedom of movement necessary for the popular dances of the time.
