Two shoulder-clasps from the ship burial at Sutton Hoo

British Museum

British Museum
London, United Kingdom

These spectacular shoulder-clasps, based on Roman prototypes, are decorated with garnet and millefiori glass, and are hinged around central locking pins. Rows of loops on the back of the clasps allowed them to be sewn to a heavy fabric, most likely a padded textile.
