This photograph depicts two wash women walking home with their laundry in Greene County, Ga. between 1940 and 1941. The photographer was Jack Delano of the Farm Security Administration. Arthur Franklin Raper,the creator of the collection in which this photograph appears, was interested in rural poverty in the depression era south.
