U.S. Army Discharge Certificate

This discharge certificate was issued to Corporal Hugh O’Byrne of the 1st Artillery in the fall of 1849, making it one of the earliest documents to come out of Vancouver Barracks. It is signed by Brevet-Major Hathaway, whose company had established the military post at Vancouver a mere six months before.
