Twelve bungalow cottages were designed by Julia Morgan in 1910. In 1963, Angel Island became part of the State Park system and the residences were abandoned and fell into disrepair. They were burned in 1971 as part of a fire training exercise, filmed for "The Candidate" starring Robert Redford. All that remains of these residences today are the concrete foundations.
