BELLS OF THE QUEEN MARY WILL HARMONISE. CH/HT "Eight bells" for passengers on the liner Queen Mary will be like a melodious church bell. Three ships' bells are being cast by Taylor's foundry at Loughborough, Leicestershire, each being tuned to a harmonious pitch. The largest, which will weigh more than three hundredweight will hang in the crow's nest and is ten times the size of the average ship's bell. It is on this that "eight bells" will be sounded. Photo shows - The largest and smallest ships' bells for the Queen Mary. There are to be three in all and the largest is for the crow's nest. Fox March 19th. 1936. TIME on board the giant liner Queen Mary will be struck on this 3-cwt. bell, cast at Loughborough.
