As city dwellers, many of us experience similar urban problems such as air pollution, traffic congestion, and the loss of urban spaces. We believe that complex issues such as these can only be solved through collective and uncommon actions. Our exhibit explores the idea of providing uncommon solutions to common problems. “Common Problems” are shown through video series of the documentary, Nomad Meets the City. It elaborates on the social and environmental issues of Ulaanbaatar which is common in many other cities. “Uncommon Solutions” are shown in the Ger, a portable nomadic dwelling made with wood and felt covers, which is to be used as a canvas for idea submission and collaborative actions. Ger has been a collective gathering space for the nomadic people for centuries. As it has a unique collective nature, we aim to incorporate this and experiment how we can collect and convey public ideas to solve common urban issues. Throughout the exhibition, visitors are encouraged to provide their innovative ideas inside the walls of the Ger. A common problem would be provided each week and by the time the biennale ends, the Ger would house the collection of collaborative public ideas.
