Umanome (House eyes) plate, Seto ware

Painted in iron, the spiral pattern on this plate resembles a horse’s eye, thus this type of plate became known as a “horse’s eye plate.” From the late Edo period through the Meiji and Taisho eras, plates of this kind were popular Seto commodities.
