Al-ḥubla is the fruit of umbrella thorn tree. This name, al-hubla, is also used to describe seed pods of both umbrella thorn trees and Assalam (an Arabic name for acacia ehrenbergiana or Vachellia flava). They are like green beans, but smaller and coiled. It is named al-hubla (which means in Arabic ‘pregnant lady’), because they have swollen bellies that look like a pregnancy bump.
