This is one of Heinz Plenge’s most famous photographs. Nobody so far has been able to take such a detailed portrait of an uncontacted, indigenous hunter living in the Manu national park (UNESCO World Heritage Site) in Peru.
Until 1992, who wanted to get a glimpse of these people, could do so only from airplanes flying over the national park. These indigenous people, voluntarily live in total isolation, and avoid getting in contact with modern ways of living. They do not like visitors and hardly let anyone get close to their community members.
The image thus shows a unique encounter between a very fragile living heritage and a very respectful and emphatic photographer.
