Raymond became a Canadian citizen in order to take a commission in the military, enlisting in 1914. He served as a Lieutenant in Company A of the Royal Canadian Regiment, 7th Brigade, 3rd Canadian Division, British Expeditionary Force. He was lost at the Somme, reported missing on October 8, 1916, in Regina Trench, joining over a million other casualties of that conflict.
