Michael Ancher has painted fellow artists the painter Peder Severin Krøyer and painter-poet Holger Drachmann in Drachmann's studio in Skagen. Drachmann is sitting for Krøyer's By the fireside, which can be seen on the easel. Krøyer exhibited his painting at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in 1907 together with this painting. The enigmatic title of the work refers to taxidermy sea eagle hanging under the ceiling. In Drachmann's writings, the sea eagle was a recurring metaphor for himself. Drachmann's studio has been preserved and can be visited in the museum Drachmanns Hus, Skagen.
