The Spänehaus, however, is named after another of its functions: the building used to house the fuel, which was needed to run the factory. The extraction pipe from the central cyclone separator, which separated the air from the splints, ended here. The fallen beech splints were sold to local businesses or burnt to generate steam and electricity.
