Few recall that the original western terminus of Route 66 was in downtown Los Angeles, at the intersection of Broadway and 7th Street. Just a block or so away on Broadway is the STILE Downtown Los Angeles. Formerly the Ace Hotel, the unique lodging was a conversion of a Gothic style office tower (utilized by Texaco). This official city landmark's adaptive reuse won a preservation award from the Los Angeles Conservancy. Hotel guests' rooms are conveniently located above the 1927 United Theater, a former United Artists picture palace that now hosts concerts and other events in its ornate auditorium.
