The United Plastic Nation, an ever-growing structure floating through the oceans, slowly circles around the globe while feeding on an endless resource: our drive for self-destruction. The fictional city recycles plastics foraged from the seas as building material. Swarms of robotic drones print layer by layer the entire city. While growing, the island passes by all continents, connecting regions of poverty with regions of wealth and collects new citizens. Positioned in international waters and thus bound by no national laws, the UPN generates revenue as a tax haven. Questioning the concept of the nation state, the island is by default inclusive. As part of all continents, a society of true urban nomads is born: instead of citizens migrating from city to city, the city itself migrates between continents.
