This is a design cast in bronze which Pablo Serrano submitted to the competition for a monument to the unknown political prisoner, conducted by the Institute of Contemporary Art in London, when he was still based in Montevideo. It is a key piece in the career of the sculptor in Teruel in Aragon because, even though he didn't win, it gave him international recognition and acclaim. In addition, it would be the piece that marked the future course of his career, abandoning the more traditional figurative sculpting he had practiced in Uruguay to embrace abstraction with his arrival in Spain in 1955. Here he would continue his focus as a sculptor of monumental projects which he had become famous for in South America. His public sculptures can today be found in cities such as Houston, Montevideo, Madrid, and Zaragoza, among others.
