In his 1934 report studying the proposed RDA site, Charles Gerner highlighted this photo as "Unsightly abandoned (for about fifteen years) pyrites mine area, in picture, fails to hide natural beauty of the background." The mine superintendent's house overlooks the abandoned ruins of the pyrite mine and the desolation of this once beautiful natural area.
