With her unique take on urban art, Japanese born and Brooklyn based AIKO, also known as Lady Aiko, fluidly mixes contemporary American aesthetics with the traditionally Japanese. She has worked with notable figures such as Takashi Murakami and FAILE and participated in the Banksy directed documentary "Exit Through the Gift Shop". Aiko transcends the typically narrowly defined scenes of graffiti, pop art, abstractionism, and beyond. The artist retains a Japanese aesthetic in her artwork, exploring femininity, sexuality and story-telling. Aiko's work also critically reflects on her experience of being female in an art movement traditionally dominated by men.
