Benode Bihari Mukherjee joined Santiniketan as a student and later became an influential teacher at the school. A versatile artist, he experimented with various art forms and mediums, including painting, calligraphy and murals.
Mukherjee's most celebrated work remains his monumental mural on the lives of medieval saints of India at Santiniketan. In 1956, Mukherjee lost his sight. Nevertheless, he continued working and shifted to new mediums like collages and printmaking.
