Currently one of the best writers in the Italian capital, Brus has been invited to match himself with a surface considered unusual for those in the graffiti business. The lettering artist has come up with an artwork that ties the study of letters with aphorisms told by famous photographers. The aim is to use the written word, and thus letters, to communicate thoughts on photography, and the notion that the photographers themselves have of it. Through the use of the best handwriting we can read the spirit of those who are able describe the world that surrounds them through what they see. If photography is imagery and reproduction of reality, words can suggest thoughts and ideas without spelling them, managing to recreate images inside us, spontaneously. Talking of photography and at the same time recreating these words through writing is thus a search for unity between the ancient forms of communication: to write, read and speak through images. The background of the composition then becomes a large alphabet that ideally represents the operative base of a ‘writer’ and at the same time the operative base for our non-verbal communication. The letters that make up our words now become autonomous entities, a practice of style and form that inevitably recalls the contents of the artwork.
