Chao Mei was born in Heze, Shandong Province in 1931. He is founder and representative painter of Beidahuang School, the main school of Chinese contemporary printmaking. Now he is the director of China Artists Association, vice-chairman of China Print Artists Association, honorary chairman of Heilongjiang Artists Association, honorary curator of Heilongjiang Art Museum, honorary president of Heilongjiang Print Academy and President of Heilongjiang Print Academy. His works, such as Pine Valley, Spring Awakening, Long Way to Go and New Residence, have won gold, silver and excellent creation awards at National Art Exhibition and Printmaking Exhibition. His works have been exhibited in more than 60 countries and regions, and more than 200 works have been collected by art galleries and museums at home and abroad. In 1988, he won the National Excellent Young and Middle-aged Painters Special Contribution Award. In 1990, he was awarded the Contribution Award of Japan Art Exchange Center. In 1991, he enjoyed the special allowance of the State Council. In 1993, he was awarded the Lifelong Achievement Award for the Development of Chinese Culture. He was awarded Luxun Print Print Prize in 1996. Heze City in Shandong Province established a "Chao Mei Print Art Exhibition Hall" for him. His main works include Mei, Home, Red Makeup, Pine Valley and so on. He has published "Selected Works of Chao Mei", "Chao Mei Printing", "Aesthetic Track in the Artistic Context", "Painting inside and outside" and so on.
