Biography: FN Souza was born in 1924 in Goa. He was expelled for participating in students’ protests against the colonial rule while studying at Sir J.J. school of Art Bombay. In 1949, he left for London where after a few years of struggle he began to make a mark in the art scene. His literary talents such as Nirvana of a Maggot published in ‘Encounter’ and the book Words & Lines published in 1959 also helped in establishing his genius. He migrated to New York in 1967. It was here that he received the Guggenheim International Award. Souza passed away in 2002 in Mumbai.
