Sadequain is one of the most well known artists from Pakistan. He was a master muralist and a social commentator. His works generally depicts man’s endless quest to discover and develop his own potential. The theme of surrender and alienation is elaborated through his well-known "Cobweb series" in which grotesque human shapes are shown to be completely unmindful of the cobwebs in which they are enveloped. In these canvases, Sadequain painted the human form in its ugliest and most contorted nature, purposely devoid of beauty, truth, and reason. These canvases perhaps reflect his own personal struggles as well as larger political and social conflict in Pakistan during the late 1960s.
