Guan Shanyue (1912-2000) was born in Yangjiang, Guangdong Province. He graduated from Guangzhou Normal School in 1933. In 1939, he held painting exhibitions about War of Resistance against Japan in Macau, Hong Kong, Shaoguan, Guilin, Guiyang, Kunming, Chengdu and Chongqing. In early 1949, he went to Hong Kong to attend the "World Painting Fair". Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, he had been successively professor and vice-minister of the Ministry of Fine Arts of the South China Academy of Literature and Art, professor and Vice-President of the Central and South American Academy, professor and Vice-President of the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, chairman of the Guangdong Branch of the Chinese Association of Fine Arts, chairman of the Guangdong Academy of Painting, vice-chairman and consultant of Chinese Artists Association. In 1991, China Association of Fine Arts set up the "Guan Shanyue Painting Teaching Creation Fund" and donated works to establish the Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen. He has held exhibitions in Korea, Poland, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the former Soviet Union, Japan, the United States, Australia, Singapore and Thailand. His representative works include "Beautiful but not Competing for Spring", "Blue Wave Surging South Sky", "Ode to the Long River" and so on. He published "Guan Shanyue Nanyang Period Tour Collection" and "Southwest - Northwest Travel Sketch Selection" .
