A contemporary artist, Iran is known for his sensual minimalism, which deals with issues of place, structure, material, design and surface with a rigorous conceptual sensibility. His work is committed to a subtle subversion of that minimalism through everyday objects. He is concerned with the tactile attributes of the chosen materials and with the sensual curves of simple abstract forms in space. Working with stainless steel, glass, copper, stone or paint on plaster, he employs subtle illusionist devices, instigating a play of depth that pervades from piece to piece. He reflects on quotidian fare and the transformation of items of industrial design into minimalist sculptures. These works are often presented in tandem with finely-honed, extremely technical, often wall-mounted site-specific installations like those seen at Matarazzo Hospital, which features inox lamps scaled to 1.5 times their original size.
