P. Khemraj came from an artistic family in Bombay. He was also an outstanding violinist and learned the sitar from Pandit Ravi Shankar. He gained exposure to new styles and techniques, which he obtained from Stanley William Hayter, the father of modern printmaking.
Khemraj learnt to express formations using the line as a life force. His works were influenced by Palsikar and Almelkar. On his return from Paris, Khemraj began evolving an abstract signature style that he tried in acrylic or mixed media on a mount board. His powerful drawings called Singing Lines were born from real-life encounters and inspirations.
