Lin Kai (1924-2006) was born in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. He graduated from Beiping National Art College in 1950. He was taught by Huang Binhong and Pan Tianshou, masters of traditional Chinese painting. From 1951 to 1988, he worked as an art editor in People's Fine Arts Publishing House. He was employed as a librarian in the Cultural and History Research Library of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1994. He mainly draws traditional Chinese painting, but also goes into calligraphy, seal carving and ancient poetry. Member of China Artists Association, Chinese Calligraphers Association and Chinese Poetry Society. The publications include Selected Paintings of Lin Kai, Lin Kai's Calligraphy and Painting, Lin Kai's Calligraphy and Painting Collection (Taiwan Edition), Ink Flower Collection, Moss Collection (Poetry Collection), etc.
