Son of M.F. Hussain, artist Shamshad Husain studied painting in Baroda. His artworks were inspired by both Indian and western traditions.

Shamshad worked on murals and sculptures early in his career. His paintings feature human figures, usually painted in muted colours and removed from their social context.
