In his art Tomasz Baran analyses the questions of plane and colour, that is some of the basic elements constituting the form of a painting. Negating the traditional two-dimensionality of a painting he bends the stretchers, alters the way they are attached to the canvas, crops irregular edges and thus creates spatial structures. In the work from the Bunkier Sztuki Collection the artist shaped the stretcher in an untypical way. He locally attached it to two additional laths running diagonally and a layer of cardboard covering the back of the work, that is elements inaccessible to the viewer's eye. The result is an uneven, spatial structure consisting of convex and concave areas that are usually absent from the smooth plane of canvas.

Tomasz Baran (b .1985) – pursues painting; creates objects and installations. Graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (diploma in 2010 from Andrzej Bednarczyk's studio). The artist draws from abstract painting forms, while at the same time transforming and quoting them. He often uses materials that come from construction stores, such as metal, sheet metal and cardboard and usually covers his paintings-objects with industrial paint, lacquer and spray.

His works are in the collections of Bunkier Sztuki, MOCAK, Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, to name a few.
