Decorated hoods, worn by both men and women, displayed wealth. The beadwork embroidery exhibited a woman’s artistic skills, as well as pride in her husband’s abilities as a good provider. The hoods played a role in showing respect to the spirits of animals hunted; however, missionaries discouraged Native beliefs and by the late 1800s the hoods were no longer worn.
