ARTIST STATEMENT
This piece is about this identity we have and take with us wherever we go in the world. Nothing speaks larger than the simple bindi, which when Americanized became “the dot.” We connect our dots to find out who we are and where we come from. As a first generation Indian American, I can only imagine what cultural shock my parents felt. As a child born into an amazing country like America, I was allowed to be me. Thanks to the visa, it was even possible to be this dot (i.e. speck on the map).
